Exploring The Potential of Zone Diet
Created by Dr Barry Sears, the Zone Diet is a diet that aims to create healthy eating habits in the long term. It became popular when its creator published the Zone Diet book, emphasizing a diet plan with balanced protein and carbohydrate intake. The diet plan revolves around a nutrient formula of 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats (sometimes called 40:30:30). This ratio has to be applied to every meal.
How does the Zone Diet work?
The name “Zone Diet” has been derived from the “zone,” a term used by Spears to indicate a proper balance of body hormones. If you eat the wrong food, hormones like insulin, glucagons, and others, can become imbalanced. In the perfect zone, there is proper balance of hormones and eventually, calories. A balanced intake of Omega 3: Omega 6 fatty acid is also recommended by this program. As the body stops storing fat and starts burning existing fat, you can lose extra weight.
Zone Diet Rules
• One hour after you wake up in the morning, take a zone meal or snack.
• There should be an interval of 4-6 hours between two meals.
• After taking a snack, wait for 2 to 2.5 hours before taking a meal.
• Analyze your hunger level before having any meal. If you are not feeling hungry and your mind is clear, you are in The Zone.
• Eight 8-ounce glasses of water must be consumed daily.
• To begin a meal, take a low-fat protein snack and then add carbohydrates with low glycemic index, such as vegetables and fruits. Combine these with good fats like olive oil or avocado.
• On an average, meal protein should weight 4 ounces for men and 3 ounces for women.

Very different from the low carb diets, the Zone Diet recommends carbs in the right balance. This is the reason why nuts are a popular food product in Zone Diet.
Pros and Cons of the Zone Diet
One of the major advantages of the Zone Diet is that dieters can eat a balance of foods. Both carbohydrates and fats are allows to be consumed in the right proportion. This is one of the most attractive features of this plan for most dieters. Along with weight loss, it also helps in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Another advantage of this diet is that it is easily found online.
In contrast, dieters may find it tough to comply with this diet in the beginning. Finding out the right balance of carbs, protein, and fats is not easy. Those who prefer to eat vegetarian find it difficult to stick with the Zone Diet.
