How Safe Are Diet Pills During Pregnancy?
You are pregnant, but this demanding state of health is making you extremely anxious about the weight you are putting on. You keep on consulting your doctor who assures you that your baby is healthy inside you.
What about the fat?
Would it go after the delivery? Will your favorite dress, shirt and Jeans fit you after it’s over? You start looking for answers. You are tempted to try out Diet pills especially the ones that claim to be super-fast fat-burners. Most weight- loss supplements have to be taken once or twice a day and the advertisers promise a very effective and smooth weight loss.
You ask your doctor and Diet Pills are a big No. He says many pills bear a warning on their packing that these pills are not meant for pregnant mothers. You explore more and you find the “herbal” ones without these warnings. Beware; don’t swallow them without consulting your doctor. Even the most innocuous ones, could harm you in this vulnerable state. Remember, during pregnancy what you eat goes to the baby as well. This is true whatever you put into your body, be it food, liquor, alcohol, smoke, drugs, pills anything goes to your baby. Are you ready to feed all this and Diet-Pills to your baby?
Even if you weren’t pregnant and just plump, your doctor would have prescribed these weight-loss pills only after confirming the tolerance level of your body. Many such diet-pills cause dizziness, headache, hormonal changes, mood swings or irritability. The more serious ones include dehydration and loss of electrolytes, leading to paralysis, drastic fluctuation of blood glucose levels, impaired organ function, heart arrhythmia, stroke, and even death. How can you let your body and your child suffer through all this during pregnancy? The risk is too high for trials.
Another point to remember is that your body undergoes hormonal changes during pregnancy. Consuming Diet-Pills could actually pay havoc with them. Your doctor would prescribe Vitamins and help you out planning the calorie- intake. Listen to him and follow that.
Pregnant mothers must have a well regulated, balanced and nutritional diet. Avoid all kinds of junk food; go in for fresh fruits, vegetables and home-made food. Drink lots of water and follow a proper schedule for light exercises that suit your health.
In all, leave the Diet-Pills and all kinds of quick weight loss means aside. If you are so conscious of your weight, you should take charge of your food intake, do regular exercise and remember as soon as you start breast-feeding the baby, the weight would be automatically taken care of, and you’ll lose it very quickly. Your baby matters more than the pounds you weigh. Take good care of your and your baby’s body and health.
