Many men start with their weight loss pursuit in full earnest only to discover after some time that they are finding it hard to lose weight. Over here we would try to analyze the chief reasons why men find it hard to lose weight.
1. No Proper Planning: Having clearly defined goals with proper time frames and effective techniques can only help you to be successful in the long run. But most men lack the planning and the perseverance that is required. They might become inspired by their idols or films stars and initially start to work in full vigor. But the initial planning is not done which results in the efforts going to waste.
2. Being Prepared Mentally – Before you actually start to follow the exercise and dietary program, it is crucial that you get prepared mentally. You need to have a proper vision in your mind and see your transformed figure. Many people start to exercise but they are themselves not convinced about their efforts. They have become so used to their flabby and chubby appearance, that they cannot imagine themselves in a leaner and fitter shape. They are just not mentally prepared!
3. Not Maintaining A Food Diary – Some men tend to be very impulsive in all their actions in life and feel that anything can be achieved even without prior planning. But weight loss is a different ball game altogether. Only a close monitoring of your weight regularly over a period of time will help you to assess the progress made. For that you need to maintain a food diary where you jot down all the aspects of your program. This would include your diet, place of consumption of food and the time of food intake. You can note down your temperament and mood that is prevalent at those times. All these might seem to be insignificant and silly to be noted down. But there is a scientific logic behind all these. Noting down the situation can help you to modify, alter or retain certain strategies in your weight loss program. You need to understand your mood fluctuations with the intake of various foods and at various times in different conditions. A food diary works as a constant indicator of where you are heading in your weight loss regime.
4. Lifestyle Pursued and Occupational Demands – Men need to travel a lot due to their official engagements where they always do not have the availability of fresh and healthy food items. Then they are forced to consume fast food which is very damaging for the health. They build up fat rapidly and this spoils the entire effort of a weight loss program. Also many jobs demand a highly sedentary lifestyle which prompts buildup of excess fat. These scenarios are for those men whose occupation forces an unhealthy lifestyle to be followed. But there are some men who do that out of habit. Partying, alcohol consumption, and addiction to various other substances are something they just cannot get rid of. In these scenarios it is the lifestyle which they have voluntarily chosen that affects their weight loss endeavors.
5. Setting Unrealistic/ Overambitious Goals: Many men are so overconfident about their capabilities that they initially set a plan that is totally unscientific and impractical. Medical experts would always tell you that drastic weight loss is never good for your health, and chances remain of some vital body organs getting damaged as a result of this. Set a target of losing weight at the rate of 2 pounds on a weekly basis.
6. Not Having Proper Access to Info: Some men do not know whom to consult for expert guidance and advice. They ask their peers and friends but are often supplied with wrong or misleading information. It is very important to remember that out of desperation one should not seek advice from any available person. If you have access to the internet, utilize that effectively. Get some food books or health magazines handy. From various online resources you would also get information regarding many expert dieticians and healthcare experts who can help you to achieve your dream in a rational manner.
7. Lack of Awareness: Some men do not even realize the hazards of being obese. They feel that their body shape and structure is well accepted by the society and obesity is a normal trend. They suffer from ignorance and some are even boastful and egoistic of their unshapely figures.
8. Concentrating on Just One Aspect of Weight Loss: Both cardio and weight training need to be incorporated in your exercise regime in a proportionate manner. Putting too much stress on just one aspect and neglecting the other will never give you the desired results. Men have this preset notion that intense cardiovascular exercises can only enable you to lose fat drastically and nothing else is effective. But this is a totally erroneous perception. Also only weight training will never be sufficient in your required muscle buildup. Resistance training is important too.
9. Tendency to Consume Lot of Snacks- Peer pressure plays a big part in snacking. You might have friends coming to your house and all of them bringing delicious snacks along. Many men find it difficult to say ‘no’ to intake of such food products because they feel that they might hurt the sentiments of their close friends. Also while watching games or movies, men tend to sit with lot of snacks along with them as items to constantly munch on.
10. Lack of Motivation or Feeling Depressed: Many men have sudden bouts of depression creeping in when they are not successful in any attempt made in their lives. When a person is depressed, there is a natural tendency for that person to overeat and increase fat content in the body drastically. Some men are again not motivated enough and are lazy by nature. They are happy staying the way they are and do not have the patience or the tenacity to stick to long term plans.
